Can anyone develop psychic ability?
I believe they can. I believe that what we call being “psychic” is a higher awareness that anyone can cultivate. Like a muscle, though, cultivation means consistent practice.
Please note that this is an EXTREMELY simplified conversation on the topic. I believe that this is a personal journey and different for everybody. But there are a few things that are true for all of us, and it is good to draw our awareness to them.

Notice coincidence and synchronicity.
You saw four red trucks in a row? You keep seeing the number 222 on your phone bill, the clock, the timestamp on a YouTube video? These synchronicities are often ways for Spirit to get our attention, because we humans love to notice pattern.
Make note of these somewhere and if you can, note down the thoughts you were having at the time you saw them. You may make some interesting connections—for example, you might notice that you see a ladybug every time you think of your deceased grandmother. Or when you start feeling resentful about your current job, you look up and see 5:55 on the clock. These are ways Spirit wants us to pay attention to our thought patterns and become aware of what we are manifesting—good and bad!
Meditate like a beast.
Meditation is a fantastic way to help develop psychic abilities simply because it trains the mind to tune in to the environment. Awareness helps block the ego of the mind, which runs a mile a minute and basically never wants to shut up. While clever and good at pop culture trivia, the mind doesn’t always see what the soul sees.
Practice meditation in any way that feels good and easy to maintain for you. After doing this for a while, you will naturally start noticing more around you, both in the environment and in other people’s subtle energy.
This is also a great thing to do if, like me, you are a big ole’ empath and you easily absorb other people’s energy. Meditation keeps you situationally aware when another person’s vibration is beginning to infringe on your own.
You are the sum of the 5 people around you.
I’m going to make this topic its own blog post, but it’s so important I’m going to say it here too: you are the sum of the 5 people around you. I didn’t come up with that, by the way. I think I read it on a business blog.
It’s funny how many business books and spiritual books actually say similar things. Maybe that’s because successful people are very conscious of who they spend time with and how they spend their energy. Your energy is precious and it is influenced by your environment.
If you spend time with negative people, you are guaranteed to start feeling yourself becoming negative. You can’t help it, no matter how many mantras you say. Negative people find it incredibly difficult to tune in because their focus is on themselves rather than on the environment.
Instead, look for positive people whose healthy lifestyle and mindset you admire, and stick with them. But remember—you are one of the five so be conscious of the vibe you’re putting out, too!
This is the number one, MOST important quality to develop psychic ability. As we grow in our awareness, more likely than not we will have to shed our preconceived notions of how life works and what reality is. That means not saying, “This isn’t what my parents taught me so it can’t be right.” Or, “That shadow I just saw wasn’t really there.” Or, “I didn’t just hear a voice tell me to check my email–that would be crazy!” Spirit comes to us using all of our senses. If we deny our senses, we deny the gifts of Spirit.
The state of mind that is openness and receptivity is the state of mind that is able to see beyond the limitations that we create for ourselves. In this state of receptivity, we literally allow ourselves to receive information and THAT is what psychic ability is all about.
