Hey guys! I haven’t posted in awhile, mainly because life has been crazy. But Thanksgiving is coming up tomorrow and there’s been a lot of ugliness spewing everywhere. Riots, rallying, attacks. Ugly thoughts and even uglier actions.
Now we are approaching a day that is seen alternately as a day to give thanks with family and friends, or a cruel reminder of past injustices, or a chance to shop some killer deals. These are just a few words I’m putting out here for what Thanksgiving means for me this year:
- Gratitude for the good faith in which early native peoples helped early European immigrants to survive in this beautiful land
- Remembrance for the struggle between native peoples and new immigrants, and the terrible brutality that has lived alongside every instance of national progress
- Resolution to make possible that every future Thanksgiving is one to remember more new instances of love and justice towards one another, rather than cruelty, hate and oppression
Not one of us is here without the help of another. Not one of us. Just remember that.
“It is one of the most beautiful compensations in life that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson
